Georgia Ports’ reconstruction of Savannah’s Ocean Terminal passed the halfway mark in June, with two upgraded vessel berths, a new gate complex and a major increase in planned container capacity.
More than 4,000 truckers had enrolled in Georgia Ports’ mobile app by June as the Port of Savannah expanded digital tickets, container-location tools and facial-recognition gate access.
The Port of Savannah handled 503,739 TEUs in July, with loaded exports nearing 115,000 TEUs and truck gate activity averaging nearly 15,000 transactions a day, Georgia Ports Authority reported.
A new Savannah Harbor modification study will examine additional channel depth and passing lanes that could allow large vessels to move inbound and outbound at the same time.
