The Port of Savannah began fiscal year 2027 with higher container volumes in July, led by a 7.7% year-over-year increase in exports, according to the Georgia Ports Authority.
Savannah handled 503,739 twenty-foot equivalent container units in July, up 27,051 TEUs, or 5.7%, from July 2025. Export volumes totaled nearly 115,000 TEUs, an increase of more than 8,200 TEUs from a year earlier. Imports reached 251,888 TEUs, up 5%, Georgia Ports said.
For Savannah-area maritime businesses, the July figures point to a stronger opening month for the port’s new fiscal year and continued activity across the terminal’s truck and rail connections. Georgia Ports reported nearly 15,000 daily truck transactions during the month, including import and export moves. Average truck turn times were 31 minutes for a single-container transaction and 51 minutes for dual moves.
Rail activity also increased. Mason Mega Rail Terminal handled 44,981 container lifts in July, up 2% from the same month in 2025, according to Georgia Ports.
Georgia Ports CEO Griff Lynch said the authority was starting the fiscal year with gains in both import and export cargo. The figures are reported by the authority and were also carried by regional business and rail-industry outlets.
