The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded Marinex Construction Inc. a $37.8 million contract for fiscal 2026 maintenance dredging in the Savannah Inner Harbor.
The Savannah District awarded the firm-fixed-price contract Aug. 12 to Charleston-based Marinex. Federal contract records list a total cumulative face value of $37,822,500. Of that amount, $33,052,500 was obligated at the time of the award using fiscal 2026 Corps of Engineers civil construction funds.
The work includes maintenance dredging and related construction services in the Savannah Inner Harbor, with the contractor responsible for personnel, equipment, materials, transportation, mobilization and demobilization. The federal contract announcement says the project can remove up to 5.6 million cubic yards of maintenance material.
Bid documents identify work in several sections of the inner harbor, including the Kings Island Turning Basin and other channel reaches, along with equipment rental, dive-team services and optional dredged-material placement work. Marinex was the sole bidder on the solicitation.
The Corps maintains Savannah Harbor to keep the federal navigation channel available for commercial vessel traffic. The Savannah District says the inner harbor extends about 21 miles and requires recurring dredging because sediment continually accumulates in the channel. The agency typically removes millions of cubic yards of sediment from the inner harbor each year and places the material in designated confined disposal areas.
For Savannah's maritime industry, the work is routine infrastructure but critical to port operations. Maintaining authorized channel dimensions helps preserve reliable access for oceangoing vessels moving to and from terminals along the Savannah River.
The contract has an estimated completion date of Nov. 30, 2027.
The roughly $33 million figure appearing in some early trade coverage reflects the amount of the initial contract action and funding obligated at award. Federal award records list the total cumulative contract value at approximately $37.8 million.
